At present he is a General Practitioner, we practically cannot get his help in any emergency.
We want a man who is able to do a fair share of Government work if necessity arises.
(B) We want as the really energetic and capable surgeon in the Colony who can also do his fair share of work in emergency.
There are supposed to be five Medical Officers in the Civil Service - Dr. Ayres, Dr. Atkinson, Dr. Jordan, Dr. Marques & myself. When Dr. Atkinson is away there are really only Dr. Ayres and myself to do the Government work (Excluding Port work). Harbour work does not really take up much time (Private Practice in the Harbour does) and in future we must have someone to fall back upon.
If Dr. Ayres, or myself fell sick for any length of time I don't know how the work could be carried on - this I know.
